What Heavy D did in the world, the legacy, what people saw and what people know is no comparison to what he would do in a room with you. Push you to want to be the best version of yourself. His thing was always about helping somebody. – Will Smith

MOUNT VERNON, NY, May 22, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ — The age of 44 was too early for America to say a final farewell to Dwight Arrington Myers, better known to the world as Heavy D; the self-proclaimed “Over Weight Lover”, rapper, record producer, singer, and actor might have been some of his professional titles. However, to people like DJ Eddie F, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Mary J Blige, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Andre Harrell and a plethora of others he was described as friend, brother, confidante and hero. Heavy D has been known as one of the 1st rappers to inspire an entire Hip Hop Generation.

“The Life of Heavy D – Be Inspired” a video documentary is now available for download on Amazon Prime Video. Originally recorded in 2012 featuring interviews by Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Mary J Blige, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh, Kim Fields, DJ Eddie F, Kool Moe Dee, Brett Ratner, MC Lyte and others. In the documentary Queen Latifah talks about what Heavy D was the first to do for her when she was 18 years old. Will Smith mentions how Heavy D was the first to embrace DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince into the world of Hip Hop.

It was DJ Eddie F who would put this group together “Heavy D & the Boyz” and nobody expected Heavy D would be the 1st rapper to incorporate arrangements and a chorus all combined with rap. Learn how the Mount Vernon raised Jamaican born American Rapper would later collaborate with his Mount Vernon brother now legendary producer Teddy Riley and how once their worlds coincided they would create magic that would forever change a musical sound forever.

Mount Vernon always being rich in culture birthing talent that was always able to reflect the values they grew up with. Heavy basically wrote about his life and things he experienced. Most of it happened without a great deal of radio play. From humble beginnings Heavy D started building his musical audiences from 150 growing to 1500 then expanding to filling arenas nationally touring.

Heavy D started acting and in a short period of time garnered over 50 IMDB acting credits. Best known for the films The Cider House Rules, Big Trouble, and Life (Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence); he was on his way to becoming known as a really great actor. The Amazon documentary will feature stories from his family and other golden-era artists such as Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, and Kurtis Blow. Also included will be performance footage, including Heavy’s last televised performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards on October 11, 2011.

It seemed only fitting to title the documentary after Heavy’s last social media post, “Be Inspired.” This marked our final inspirational quote we would receive from our beloved brother Heavy D. On November 8, 2011 Heavy D passed away from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis. We got nothing but love for you Heavy.
