Cinema Italian Style 2016 featured a red-carpet screening of Italy’s official Oscar submission for Best Foreign-Language Film, “Fire At Sea” from writer-director Gianfranco Rosi. Winner of this year’s Berlin International Film Festival’s Golden Bear Award, “Fire at Sea” has been described by Meryl Streep as “a daring hybrid of captured footage and deliberate storytelling.”

Also showcased during the 10-day event was “Franca: Chaos & Creation” by Francesco Carrozzini, a documentary dedicated to the director’s mother, Vogue Italia’s Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani. The film highlights her groundbreaking coverage of the fashion industry, while also exploring the relationship between Sozzani and Carrozzini as mother and son. The film was first shown in September at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.
Held November 14-23 at the Egyptian Theatre, the 12 th edition of Cinema Italian Style was produced by Luce Cinecittà and American Cinematheque under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles with support from the Italian Ministry of Culture.
